Voting & the daily survey

Voting & the daily survey

Community signal on directree comes in two flavours: upvotes on tools, and the daily survey.

Upvotes

Signed-in users can upvote any tool they find genuinely useful. Upvotes are the only thing that ranks the Top feed – not payment, not featuring, not verification. One account, one vote per tool.

That's also why votes deliberately don't influence the AI match or any listing facts – popularity is its own signal, kept separate from truth.

The daily survey

Every day, /surveys poses one question to the community – typically a "which tool would you pick for X?" style question with a set of tool options.

  • Voting – sign in and cast your vote on the open survey. The tally is live.
  • Closing – each survey has a closing time; once closed, the result is final.
  • The archive – closed surveys move to the archive as a permanent public record. Nothing is edited after the fact; the archive is the receipts.

The tagline is literal: we never pick winners – you do. directree doesn't editorialise survey outcomes, and paid plans can't buy votes.

Why participate

Beyond influencing results, genuine participation builds your contributor standing – the quality-gated, trust-weighted reputation behind the Top Contributor badge and the daily Community Showcase draw. Low-effort activity earns nothing (by design); substantive participation does. How that works is covered in Contributors & the Community Showcase.

At signup you can opt into survey invites – a heads-up when new surveys open, which is the easiest way to participate consistently.
