Find your best match: the AI match

On the Compare page, after selecting 2–4 tools from a category, you can run Find your best match: describe what you need, and an AI ranks your selected tools against your stated needs.

How it works

1. Select tools to compare (see Comparing tools).
2. Answer a short questionnaire about your needs, and optionally add free text ("solo founder, needs Zapier, budget under $20/mo…").
3. The AI reads only the directree listing data for your selected tools and suggests which fits your answers best, with reasoning per tool.

The honesty firewall

This is the part that makes it different from "AI picks a winner" widgets:

• Grounded only in listings. The model may use only the listing data you can see yourself. It never pulls in outside claims and never invents features.
• "Not stated in the listing." If your need can't be assessed from a tool's listing, the match says exactly that instead of guessing. A sparse listing gets a caveat, not a lower rank.
• Provenance-aware. Each suggestion shows how trustworthy its source data is: founder-verified, founder-edited, or AI-inferred-only (what those mean).
• A suggestion, not a score. You get reasoning you can check against the side-by-side, not a fake "9.1/10 match".
• Un-buyable. Upvotes, Plus, featuring, and verification never affect the ranking.

Practical notes

• Identical re-runs are cached, and the feature is rate-limited per IP to keep it free.
• Better listings give better matches. Founders: a claimed, current listing is what this feature quotes about you.

Treat the result as a well-read starting point: it tells you why a tool seems to fit, grounded in what the listing actually says. Then you verify the details yourself.
