Is G2 a trustworthy source?
G2 is a trustworthy source for individual reviews and a less trustworthy source for rankings — and knowing the difference is most of the skill. The reviews are real: G2 verifies reviewers (LinkedIn, work email, screenshots), so the written experiences are genuine users'. But aggregate positions reward review volume, and vendors run coordinated campaigns — gift cards for reviews, review drives at renewal time — so 'most-reviewed leader' often means 'best-funded review pipeline'.
How to extract the real value: sort to the 2–4 star reviews (the honest middle), look for repeated specific complaints (support response times, billing surprises, migration pain), and check reviewer company size matches yours.
Treat any single source — G2 included, directree included — as one input. Triangulation beats trust.
