ReplayChess
Play the critical positions of famous chess games and 3,600+ openings vs friends, rated opponents or Stockfish, then see where you left the grandmaster line.
Overview
ReplayChess is a free, open-source chess platform built around one idea: chess history should be played, not just watched. Pick one of 50+ legends (Morphy to Carlsen), choose a famous game and start from its critical position, or open any of 3,600+ ECO-coded openings and play from the resulting position. Opponents: a friend via a private link (no account needed), a rating-matched player with clocks, or Stockfish running as WebAssembly in your browser at four strengths up to ~2200. After each legend game a divergence report shows your match rate and the first move where you left the grandmaster line, with a practice mode to retry. Tournaments, a PWA install, and an MIT-licensed codebase on GitHub (Next.js 15, React 19, Prisma, Socket.IO).
ReplayChess turns chess history into something you play: start from the decisive position of a legendary game or any ECO opening, play it out against a friend, a rated opponent or in-browser Stockfish, and get a divergence report against the original moves. Free, open source, no ads.
Sources behind this listingSee source links, recorded dates and owner corrections.
Observed facts come from public pages. Founder-edited facts are supplied by the verified owner. AI-inferred facts are model interpretations; derived facts are calculated from other data. A source link lets you check the current page. It does not guarantee the fact is still current.
Dates show when a record was saved. Some older records use the listing’s update date; they are not proof of a fresh check. Missing source records are shown explicitly.
