Is LibreOffice as good as Microsoft Office?

LibreOffice is as good as Microsoft Office for most individual users, and not as good for heavy collaborative or enterprise use — that's the honest split. Where LibreOffice genuinely matches: everyday documents, spreadsheets with normal formulas, presentations, working offline, and price (free and open source, no subscription, no account).

Where Microsoft Office stays ahead: real-time co-editing (LibreOffice has nothing like Office 365's collaboration), perfect fidelity on complex .docx/.xlsx files exchanged with Office users (mostly fine in LibreOffice, but heavy formatting and macros can shift), Excel's top-end features (Power Query, some pivot capabilities), and Outlook/Teams integration.

Rule of thumb: if your documents mostly stay with you, LibreOffice saves you the subscription with little sacrifice. If your work is constant back-and-forth with Office-using teams, the compatibility tax eventually costs more than Microsoft does.
