What the threads agree on
Search "product hunt alternative reddit" and you land in the same handful of threads in r/SaaS, r/SideProject and r/indiehackers, all started by a founder who launched on Product Hunt, got a few dozen upvotes and no signups, and asked where else to go.
The honest summary of those threads: nobody has found a second Product Hunt, and most replies say to stop looking for one. The consistent advice is to launch on three or four smaller platforms in the same week, treat each as its own audience, and then build the slow channels that keep working after launch day.
The names that come up most
Hacker News (Show HN) is the most repeated recommendation for anything technical. No follower advantage, just readers deciding whether the thing is interesting. The trade-off is that consumer apps and marketing tools get little traction there.
BetaList comes up for pre-launch and beta signups. Redditors describe its subscribers as small but unusually willing to try things. In our own launch data it is also the platform that sent the most referral visits (see below).
Uneed, Fazier and TinyLaunch are the current mid-size boards. Threads from 2025 and 2026 mention them as easier to place on than Product Hunt and better converting for their size. Fazier and Uneed both showed up in our referral logs.
Peerlist Launchpad and MicroLaunch are recommended for indie hackers who want a longer voting window than Product Hunt's 24 hours.
dev.to and Indie Hackers are named less as launch boards and more as places where a well-written "what I built and learned" post keeps sending traffic for months.
What our own launches saw
We track referral traffic to two products we launched this summer. Over 90 days, the launch boards that actually sent visitors were BetaList (86 sessions to one product, 52 to the other), Fazier (25), TinyLaunch (10 and 33), Uneed (10 and 16) and Product Hunt itself (10). Everything else was under five sessions. The ranking in the Reddit threads matches the ranking in our analytics: BetaList first, the mid-size boards next, Product Hunt near the bottom without an existing audience.
The full comparison of eleven platforms, with pros, cons and who each one suits, is in 11 Product Hunt alternatives that actually send traffic.
Where a directory listing fits in
Every launch board above is a one-day event. Reddit threads increasingly end with the same point: the launch spike is not the strategy, the permanent pages are.
A listing in a structured software directory keeps surfacing in Google and in AI answers long after the vote count stops moving. directree builds the listing from your URL in about 30 seconds, labels every fact as Observed, AI-inferred or Founder-edited, gives verified founders a do-follow backlink for free, and does not sell placement. The free submit form is the whole process. If you are planning a launch week, our launch-day playbook for solo founders covers the sequencing.
